Kru Nam was an artist when she brought paint supplies to the streets of Chiang Mai.
She received her calling from the strokes of the Children’s paintings. What would cause children to paint such frightening images? She asked the kids about their paintings: why were they so dark — full of unspeakable torment? The kids told her their stories about being brought to Chiang Mai to “work” in the karaoke clubs. Not realizing it at the time, Kru Nam became an abolitionist, a modern day freedom fighter.
She now cares for over 150 children, trafficked from Thailand’s hillsides and surrounding countries. View the Video.

Did you know almost every minute of every day, a baby is born with HIV, passed on by their mother during pregnancy, labour or delivery. This is because only one in five mothers with HIV receive the right medicine and care to prevent passing on the virus to their babies. Without treatment, most of these children will not live to see their second birthday.
It doesn’t have to be like this. There is an effective treatment, costing less than £1, which can prevent a mother passing HIV to her baby. With the right medicine and care, more than 98 per cent of mothers with HIV do not pass the virus to their baby.

Houzan Mahmoud, is the UK representative of the Organization of Women's Freedom in Iraq currently creating an awareness of the present dire & horrific situation facing women, young girls & working people in Iraq due to the U.S. occupation & rising fundamentalist reactionary forces unleashed since the war.  An example of this awful treatment is a film on Youtube of a young girl being stoned to death - her father is complicit.

Ms. Mahmoud is coordinating an international campaign to demand that the Kurdistan regional government not insert “Article 7” into the proposed Kurdistan constitution. Article 7 would make Islamic Sharia the official law of the land. The effect of this language will be to institutionalise even more discrimination & violence against women, non-religious & ethnic groups in Iraq & further the erosion of civil rights.  There must be an end to gender apartheid & an immediate halt to the U.S. occupation.

Here are three things you can do to help:

1) Ask your friends, contacts, coworkers and organization's members to sign OWFI's online petition condemning Article 7. Click on the link below and also pass on the request far and wide to your email lists and online contacts:
http://www.petitiononline.com/15122006/petition.html

2) Write letters in support of OWFI's campaign to repeal Article 7 and in favour of the separation of religion from the state and education, as well as equality and freedom for women. Please see the list opposite for where to email your letters of support.

3) Circulate this action alert and the attached call for support letters to other activists, contacts, women's groups, organizations, civil liberties advocates and unions.
